Confessions of an ER nurse

The experience was exhilaratingly wonderful... incomparable... and unmasked by pretensions. You'd get face to face with reality and what's going on around you... and you cannot deny the fact that sometimes, life, indeed could be bitter. But at this point in our lives, we'd get to know who stood up bravely against the trials and who faltered weak.

When a patient would first step into the Emergency Room, you as a nurse would wonder what happened to him/her. And then, there comes the feeling that you'd want to help him/her out, ease her from the labor pains she's experiencing, treat him of the punctured wound he's tending, provide him with oxygen when he has difficulty in breathing. All your nerves get fired up, ready to be in action with the slightest errand you could hear. But, sometimes, when you'd meet the worst of your nightmares, when you've come to encounter something you never had imagined, you'll just find yourself in a corner, unable to move, unable to think what to do. And man, you have to snap back to reality if you'd want to find yourself useful. At one point, when we came back from our dinner break, there was a commotion at the ER. A family suffered 1st to 2nd degree burns due to a fire accident at home. Of course, it wasn't the first time i encountered burn patients, but i don't know...i just don't know what to do. i was a bit shocked to find myself in a situation where i was helpless and lost. nevertheless, i did find myself useful somehow... story ended up the family refused admission and wanted to go home. i do got worse feelings being in a helpless situation..and i learned that the worst thing about wanting to help others is not being able to actually do something. So, whatever it may take, if we do have the heart to offer ourselves to others, what the heck...give them our best.

yeah,
i could say you can appreciate life more when you'd get the chance to see all facets of the globe.
